However, I still want to say a few things and post a few pictures. First, let me post my favorite new picture of my two boys. Brittney Gann came to our house when Colson was 2 weeks old to do his newborn pictures. Here is the ONLY one Cooper would cooperate and let us take. He was, well, let's just say in a pretty terrible mood that day to say the least. But we managed to get ONE.
Colson is still quite a wonderful little boy. He sleeps well at night, and many times I have to wake him to feed him. He is sometimes a little fussy, but seems to be very easy to calm, which is a refreshing change from how Cooper was at that age. Most of the time he is asleep or awake and happy. I am still getting used to that idea, as it was not what I had with Coop, and is not quite like I expected. However, I am loving it and enjoying our time in the mornings together. Especially since he is such a sweet baby.
Since Cooper is in school, he leaves with Daddy in the morning and we don't see him again until 2:30. That is giving me and Mr. Colson some time to bond and adjust to our new schedule. He has not gained weight as fast as he should be, which of course has been a source of stress. I am not sure if it had to do with me having mastitis, or him being a sleepy and lazy nurser, or maybe a combination of both...but, our new schedule to get the weight on him consists of a 2-3 hour cycle where we nurse, drink from a bottle from what mommy pumped after the last feeding change diaper, pump, change diaper again usually, and then he usually naps or chills for 30 minutes or so while mommy runs furiously around the house washing clothes, dishes, bathrooms, floors, or whatever else seems to be a mess at the time. Then we start all over again. All....day....long....
Yes, it has been quite time consuming, and at times honestly downright frustrating. However, it is well worth it each time I lay him on the scale (yes I have one at home thanks to my Dad!) and see the ounces creeping up each time. So we will continue doing this as long as it is working, as long as mommy can keep it up, or as long as he needs it to keep gaining. Hopefully, though, as he is getting older, bigger, and more alert, he will nurse more actively and I won't have to spend so much time with my pump. Because for a gal who likes to always be going and moving, sitting in one place doing the same thing so many times a day is making me a little crazy!! But, I am definitely going to do all I can do to keep this little boy smiling.
Cooper has been adjusting to his big brother status quite well. He is enjoying playing with both his toys and Colson's toys now.
We are thankful that he has adjusted so well at home, and are working with him on his behavior at school. Since Colson was born, Cooper has been acting out at school in the form of hitting and biting. So his teachers are working with us to get him back on track. I put together a "behavior card" of my own, as the teacher in me just had to find a way to positively reinforce good behavior. Here is his card:
We started this on Monday. and after 5 days of school, Cooper has 3 punches. He made it to "yucky yellow" twice this week at school, so those two days did not result in a punch in his card. Maybe this, along with the help of his teachers, will help motivate him to keep his hands to himself at school!
Not much else has been happening. We have been at home most of the time, and have spent most of our time in our pajamas, just adjusting to our new life together.
So far, so good. Baby Colson is definitely a keeper, noooo doubt about that!
